Hunting Time

Emmett's eyes remained darkened as he looked around the forest, cautiously minding his steps as he sneaked up along two deers, casually chomping on some grass. Emmett slowly took his body weight onto his back leg, getting ready to strike as he counted down in his head. Reaching zero, he pushed off his back leg, sprinting and leaping over, grabbing hold of the larger of the two, tackling it down to the ground. His thirst would soon be quenched as he dug his fangs into the unsuspecting prey.

A few moments later, Emmett's eyes had turned a golden color as he joined his family, watching as Alice began to speak of a potential new threat to the clan. "I think the dogs would tell us if they were expecting company. What about the Volturi? Surely they would be aware of a new threat!" Emmett said, not liking when they were kept in the dark surrounding things that could pose a threat to them.

Rosalie had separated from her family for a bit to be able to hunt on her own. She closed her eyes and took in the scent of a doe just a couple of feet away from her. She grinned and swiftly climbed a tree. Nothing wrong with having a bit of fun, now was there? She stood directly above the doe and grasped the tree for support. The burning in her throat was getting unbearable, but hey, that's what hunting was for.

She took a step and fell off of the branch face first, landing on the doe and snapping it's neck quickly before sinking her fangs into it. The blood rushed down her throat and she couldn't help but close her eyes in contentment. That felt much better. She licked her teeth to get rid of any bloodstains, and looked down at her attire to make sure there were no unwanted marks before going to join her family once more.

She listened to Alice's words with rapt attention as she took her place by Emmett's side. She frowned slightly. "Don't tell me their after Bella and-or Renesme again?" Really, how is it that everyone seemed keen on the two newest members of the family?

Esme flitted along the forest, knowing she wasnt in need of feeding. She had done that long ago, catching one deer. Nothing was wrong with chasing potential prey though, so that was what she was doing. She felt like she needed to get out of the house a bit.

Esme paused, and heared Alice, Emmett, and Rose not too far from where she was standing."I hope thats not the case..."Esme added slowly, uneasily, walking to her adoptive children.

"I dont understand." Esme sighed, listening to Alices words. "What do they want to do with Nessie?" She furrowed her brows, wondering why they wanted to once again return to Forks. "She isnt a threat to anyone." Esme felt that way at least. Though, as long as they stayed together, Nessie would be fine.

Or she hoped.

Jasper sunk down low, unlike his siblings he did not just go on hearing alone. Years of military training had taught him to be constantly aware and it was dangerous enough giving over to his most basic of desires, he would not add lack of vision to that if he could help it. He heard it before he saw it, the strong limbs of the mountain lion padding around the forest floor. He couldn't help the almost sadistic chuckle. He'd been like that once; believing that he was the King, that there was nothing greater than him. He'd fallen so far. He pounced quickly, draining the creature quickly, and tossing him under a cluster of thorny bushes. Jasper sunk down again hearing the thirsty guzzling of a deer and began to make his move towards them before halting... Alice. He could feel her. He closed his eyes. He could do that for her. And sought out her location, his feet moving on their own accord bringing him closer to her.

Jasper arrived quickly, his eyes searching manically for whatever might be the source of the conflict his family were feeling. He walked measuredly across to Alice, placing his arms around the top of her shoulders. "What's happened?" He asked simply, looking at each of his family members in turn.

Jasper rubbed soothing circles against Alice back and tightened his hold feeling her mood shift from fear to happiness, he narrowed his eyes and scolded her. "You never have to hide how you feel from me Alice." He told her lowering his voice slightly and kissing her cheek. He hated when she did it, the same way he knew the entire family hated him playing with their emotions. She had saved him so long ago, and he vowed to always do the same. He turned his head back to the rest of the group, and weighed up their choices. "No, it would be dangerous to just go up there. Either they're aware of your power and it's a trap meaning we're severely outnumbered, or they have no idea and aren't a threat... perhaps they could be here for the dogs." He reasoned, all his years of military tactical training rushing back to him. It wouldn't be wise to run up there, especially if it was a mountain base. "We should find the others, until then remain vigilant and stick together... Alice do you think you could keep an eye on their movement though darlin'?" He smiled. He hated that she felt some sort of responsibility for not being able to see everything, she did enough; no one cared as much as she did, or worked as hard, and no one blamed themselves more than his wife. Jasper brushed a thumb over her cheek, a ghost of a smile passing over his features. "Lets us just finish up here and go home, we can't make any immediate decisions out in the open, anyone could be listening." He added, his eyes roaming the treeline.

Jasper knotted his hand with Alice's and sighed contentedly. Everything always felt better with Alice by his side, and he knew instinctively that she felt the same. Nothing could be so terrible if they could brave it together. Alice would always be his first priority, her and his family; though she kept him grounded the most and it was to her he owed everything he was. "That's all I ever ask," He smiled, giving he hand an affectionate squeeze. Alice never had to do more than try, and though he sometimes wondered if she thought she wasn't worth anything without her gift, she was the most inspiring woman he'd ever met, and she was worth more to him than he could ever express. He laughed deeply, happiness, and love and contentment rolling off of him in waves. "I'm Major Jasper Whitlock Ma'am, it's my duty." He drawled, saluting his wife with a wink. Jasper turned to the rest of his family and smiled, "are we all done here? If so we should probably head back." He said his voice rough but clear.

Jasper sighed nestling closer to his wife, and nodded agreeing with Alice. The last thing anyone wanted to do was alert whomever could be watching them, that they knew of their interference. He kissed Alice's temple and nodded to the rest of his family. "Don't be too long, and stay safe." He said, concern seeping though. Jasper gave one last tight-lipped smile, and giving Alice's hand a light squeeze, flitted off through the woods, back to the Cullen residence, where he hope Alice might start feeling a little more confident, he felt so helpless at times, but contented himself with the thought that he would always be there beside her to calm her fears as best he could.

Renesmee was a bit behind. She had always enjoyed taking her time while hunting. She liked looking at all the flowers and trees. Renesmee enjoyed nature. It was a beautiful thing. And, whenever she thought of stories to tell others, it was better if she had places in mind. That way, others could see them also. And, well, an effect of her wasting time was that everyone else was ahead of her.

She sighed heavily, taking off after her family. She really needed to keep up better. Jake wasn't with her to watch over her as she looked around. Though Renesmee insisted she could take care of herself.

Spotting her family with tense looks on their faces, Renesmee slowly approached them. Instead of wondering what was going on aloud, she moved over to her Aunt Rose and placed a small hand on her cheek.

"What's happening Aunt Rosie?" Renesmee thought, her eyebrows knitted together.

Rosalie listened to the exchange as she leaned against Emmett. She didn't think she could handle another person out to get Renesmee or any other part of her family. She sighed, eyes closed. The sound of rustling leaves and Renesmee's scent filled her when the child stepped close to show her her thoughts. Smiling softly, Rose took the little girl in her arms and looked around.

"We were just talking about boring adult stuff, Ness." She said smoothly, meeting each member of her family's eyes as she said so. Ness didn't have to know about an unknown threat. Not when it was still that. Unknown. She leaned against Emmett for support.

"When you get as old and grumpy as Aunt Rosalie, then you can hear everything that we talk about," Emmett said with a large smile on his face as he looked at Renesmee. He then looked at his wife briefly, giving her a small wink. He knew that it was for the best that Ness didn't know anything yet, and fully supported Rosalie's obvious choice to avoid the topic. "And if you started getting as boring as this lot, I'd have no one fun to talk to would I Nessie?" Emmett muttered to her, ruffling her hair, letting his teeth show with his cheeky smile at his little adoptive niece.

Renesmee opened up her arms when Rosie went to pick her up. Wrapping her arms around her Aunt's neck, Renesmee looked at her curiously. "I still want to know," Nessie thought to Rosalie, her hand still pressed against her cheek. Nessie had a feeling they were speaking about something that they just didn't want her to know about. It was obvious that they were hiding something.

Nessie turned to her adoptive uncle with a grin. "I'll always be fun to talk to Uncle Emmett!" Renesmee actually said, uncharacteristically. She liked speaking. Sometimes.

Rosalie closed her eyes, content with just snuggling her niece. Her eyes snapped open, however, when Emmett mentioned something about her. Knowing that it was a joke - It better be. - she met his gaze for a moment before rolling her eyes. "I am not old and grumpy!" Rosalie scoffed pouting at the young hybrid in her arms. "You don't think I'm old, do you, Ness?" She asked her niece, batting her eyelashes.

When Ness proceeded to ask her again, she met her mom's eyes, begging for help. Esme would know how to divert a child's attention, right? She hoped so. "Uncle Emmett's your favorite Uncle now, huh?" She asked, motioning to Jasper. "What about poor old Uncle Jazz?"
